Transfer your existing telephone number to Storm
If you would like to keep your existing telephone number and use this on our system then this process is called number porting.
This charge is the porting setup fee and covers a single porting request for a single telephone number. Additional requests to your provider are charged separately to cover the charges that we incur by the providers. Additional requests are charged at £25 each.
Number porting is where the number is taken directly from BT or other service provider. Once numbers are ported they live on our servers not on the landline, so benefit from being able to receive multiple simultaneous incoming and outgoing calls, defeating the traditional BT 1 call per line problem.
Another benefit of this is that the number then becomes completely portable as in it is not tied to a particular location and can be pointed to a handset anywhere that has a broadband connection.
Please note that the process of porting your number means that the physical line that this number was originally attached to will become redundant and be disconnected by your provider. If your office is operating on just that one number then you will need to firstly place an order for another telephone line to be installed to carry your broadband connection. If you are in a Virgin fibre optic area then you can use this to carry your internet traffic without the need for any telephone line at all!
The number porting process should only take around 14-21 days to complete and Storm will endeavour to make sure that successful porting requests are completed in as short a time as possible. We do occasionally come across issues with porting where providers are slow to release numbers, or because the details are incorrect at the time of presenting the order. These cases are out of the jurisdiction of Storm and although we work hard to complete these they sometimes take longer than expected.
Once porting is complete, the monthly charge for your telephone number is the cost of a normal geographic number purchased from our store.
